Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
