Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers mentioned they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A high-ranking official commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
